My Art 75 class went to the Des Moines Art Center today, and there were a bunch of great new exhibitions. One of the exhibits, Surface Value, featured the African American female artist Mickalene Thomas. These photos don’t really do her vast mixed media pieces justice, but the color, rhinestones, and flaunting of black culture is amazing to soak up in person.
